Hi. I'm Alisha!

Homeschooling Mom, Educator, and Encourager of Parents Who Need a Little Breathing Room

If you’re here, I’m guessing you care deeply about your child’s education—and maybe you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, wondering if you’re doing this whole homeschooling thing “right.”

I’ve been there.

I’ve homeschooled my kids for over 15 years. Along the way, I’ve juggled curriculum choices, evolving values, burnout, growth spurts (theirs and mine), and all the day-to-day challenges that come with raising and educating kids at home. I’ve also navigated medical challenges—my own—brought on by burnout I didn’t see coming. Like many parents, I spent so much time giving to my family that I forgot to care for myself in the process.

And that’s part of why I do this work now.

Why I Do What I Do

I started homeschooling because I wanted something different—something more responsive, flexible, and personal for my kids. Over time, it became clear that this was more than just a schooling choice. It was a lifestyle that centered connection, adaptability, and respect for who each child is.

After several years of homeschooling, I earned my Master’s in Teaching. At the time, my kids had briefly returned to public school, and I missed teaching. I thought getting certified would make me feel more legitimate. What I didn’t realize was that I was already doing the real work—and doing it well.

What that degree did give me was perspective. I got a behind-the-scenes look at the public school system, and what I saw confirmed my belief that our children deserve more personalized, intentional learning. I saw passionate teachers trying to do the impossible—reach every child in overcrowded classrooms with limited support. And I saw how easy it is for kids to go unseen in that system.

But here’s the thing: homeschool parents often go unseen too.

What I Believe

💠 I believe education should be tailored to the unique pace, needs, and interests of each child.

💠 I believe parents are more than capable of guiding their child’s learning—especially when they have the tools, encouragement, and support they need.

💠 And I believe a thriving homeschool doesn’t start with the perfect curriculum. It starts with a supported parent.

That’s why I created this space.

Homeschooling can feel isolating—especially when you don’t see yourself represented in the mainstream conversations. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping parents who want to homeschool without religious frameworks, without rigidity, and without burning out in the process.

So whether you're brand new or many years in, whether you're confident or quietly second-guessing every decision—you belong here.

You’re not just your child’s teacher. You’re the heartbeat of your homeschool.

And you deserve support, too.

💛 Let’s do this together. 💛

Welcome to Melati Homeschooling Collective

where homeschool parents grow, bloom, and thrive alongside their children.

🌸 “Melati” (pronounced meh-la-TEA) means jasmine in Indonesian — a flower known for its gentle beauty and its symbolism of purity, strength, and blossoming. We chose this name because it captures what we believe to be true of homeschooling: that beauty unfolds when we root ourselves in what matters most. And that starts with the parent.

💗 Here’s the truth — we’re a brand new collective, just beginning to grow. But we’re dreaming big. Our mission is to become a thriving community of secular homeschoolers who are supported, seen, and encouraged every step of the way.

Because we believe this: you have to blossom first.

✔ Homeschooling isn’t just about curriculum and checklists. It’s about showing up for your child in a way that feels grounded and authentic. And you can’t do that if you’re overwhelmed, burned out, or trying to do it all alone.

💗 At Melati Homeschooling, you’ll find a community that understands what it means to homeschool outside the norm. A place where parents are supported in their own growth — through self-care, connection, and practical tools that actually make life easier.

We’re building something special — a place full of resources, tips, honest conversations, and real community. Whether you're just getting started or you've been at this for years, we want you to feel empowered, not isolated.

This isn’t about doing it perfectly. It’s about doing it together.

💛 So take a deep breath, pull up a chair, and stay a while.

You belong here.💛

Some fun facts about me...

My family lived in Thailand for two years when our kids were 5 & 7 years old.

We have the cutest chihuahua terrier named Zoe. Her favorite place is in my lap.

We are homeschool hacking our way through high school now with our boys, taking classes at home, at public school, community college, and trade schools. All at the same time!
